Cavity Treatment Might Call for a Dental Crown Restoration

Posted .

As dental caries progress, the cavity will start to grow to compromise an increasing amount of tooth enamel. If the area of tooth decay becomes too large, Dr. David Tapani might not be able to viably repair the tooth with a simple dental filling.

To effectively treat a tooth in this condition, Dr. David Tapani might recommend replacing the entire tooth enamel layer with a dental crown. The restoration treatment starts with Dr. David Tapani using a special dental drill to remove the tooth enamel layer and create an abutment. This a healthy pillar of dentin will eventually anchor the dental crown in your mouth.

Dr. David Tapani will then prepare an impression of the abutment and the related teeth in your bite pattern. It will be sent to a dental lab to serve as a guide for the technicians as they create your dental crown. A member of Dr. David Tapani’s staff will call you to schedule a second appointment when the new dental crown is ready. A strong dental adhesive will secure it in place with the same strength and durability of the original tooth.
