What to Do About the Spots on Your Teeth

Posted .

Have you ever seen white spots on anyone’s teeth? While many people hope to have a white smile, these spots can be embarrassing. These spots can be caused by several issues but there are a number of things you can consider doing to avoid and address these problems.

White spots are often the result of a condition called enamel hypoplasia. This condition could be the result of poor oral hygiene, plaque buildup, chronic dry mouth, or acid reflux disease. Enamel hypoplasia can also lead to sensitive teeth or tooth discoloration.

White spots can also be a sign of demineralization. If you don’t have enough calcium and other minerals in your diet, your enamel can weaken, resulting in these spots. White spots could also be caused if your teeth are exposed to too much fluoride, especially while you’re young.

If you have white tooth spots, there are a few things you can consider. Our team could recommend veneers, which are thin shells that are fused to your teeth to cover imperfections. We may also recommend a treatment designed to strengthen your enamel or examine your smile to make sure you’re getting the right amount of minerals.
